The best tongue twisters. A selection from the theater director

How to begin to speak beautifully. The best tongue twisters

Everyone knows that not only what we say is important but also how we speak. The right pronunciation always sounds intelligent and harmonious, attracts attention to the speaker. The tongue twisters are very useful to develop the correct diction and articulation, improve the culture of speech, develop speech techniques, and clearly pronounce words and phrases.

6 steps of the correct ways of learning tongue twisters

  1. At the start, you need to say the chosen tongue twister slowly and clearly, by syllables. At this step, you remember the words and their correct sound.
  2. Now say the tongue twister silently. At this stage, you work out the articulatory apparatus.
  3. After that whisper the text. Not quietly, not hissing, but whispering. It is important to learn how to pronounce words clearly.
  4. At this stage say the tongue twister in a normal voice. Do not rush, it is important to say the words without making mistakes. If some words still cause difficulties, you can again divide them into syllables.
  5. One of the most interesting steps is practising intonation. Try to pronounce the tongue twister with different intonations: playful, aggressive, questioning or uplifting, sad or reasonable, according to the content of the phrase. The most interesting thing is when the same phrase changes its meaning depending on the intonation: from condemnation to sympathy, from a smile to irritation. This exercise comes from the theatre and develops your acting skills quite well.
  6. The final stage is the contest! Now you need to pronounce the tongue twister as quickly as possible. Organise a competition with your friends: who can pronounce a tongue twister three times in a row quickly and without mistakes?

We asked Herman Hoshkador, the director of the Harms Show theatre, to make a list of his favourite tongue twisters used by his actors at rehearsals for the Experiment portal.

So, it is time to train our speech apparatus!
