SUSSAN DEYHIM & RICHARD HOROWITZ - Monkey See, Monkey Do
“Monkey See Monkey Do,” the second single from Sussan Deyhim and Richard Horowitz’s The Invisible Road: Original Recordings, 1985–1990, is an exercise in stretching the potential / ever-evolving form of the human voice. Singing in both English and Farsi, as well as a composite tongue that she developed by drawing upon numerous indigenous vocal techniques from around the world, Deyhim’s vocals assume several forms and frequencies on “Monkey See, Monkey Do.” Singing, chanting, screeching, shouting in rounds, her voice ricochets across a minimal melange of Horowitz’s syncopated synths, not dissimilar to something that his friend, and collaborator, Ryuichi Sakamoto might have concocted during this era.
