Zeiss Hints at a Comeback to the Photography World
Zeiss is Back in the Photography Game After Six Years?
Across all of Zeiss's social media accounts, a teaser appeared the day before yesterday promising big news soon, and today another followed – with a date: February 25, 2025.
Since these are the accounts of Zeiss's photo division, one can assume that after a long break, the company is returning to the photo industry.
As you know, the company has not released any photo optics for a long time; its last photo lens was released in 2019, and rumors spread online that the Germans were abandoning the photo direction. In response, in 2023, Zeiss not very convincingly refuted these messages, but no announcements of new products followed.
However, the teasers in the official account have revived hope – the company seems ready to return to the production of new lenses for cameras.
There are no particular details yet. However, one can try to delve into conspiracy theories: the owl in the first picture is Asio OTUS (eared owl). It is clear from the caption that the owl picture was taken with a ZEISS Otus 1.4/85, and it also says "Get ready for awesome news!"
If all these coincidences are not distracting maneuvers, then there is no doubt that Zeiss will soon present a new Otus lens. This series is known for its incredible image quality and has earned recognition from both photographers and cinematographers. And the last lens in the series, and indeed the company's photo lens, was the Zeiss Otus 100mm f/1.4:
Unlike the Batis, Loxia, and Touit series, the Otus line was exclusively available for SLR cameras, but it is clear that the new lens will be released for mirrorless cameras; the intrigue lies only in the mounts.
