Lisa’s "Alter Ego" Shatters Records and Stirs Buzz
Lisa of Blackpink fame has stormed the charts with her album Alter Ego, racking up a jaw-dropping 23.49 million streams on Spotify in its first day. That’s the highest tally ever for a female rapper’s debut, leaving Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy (2018) in the dust with its 15.4 million opening-day streams.
Alter Ego dropped on February 28, weaving in earlier singles like “Rockstar,” “New Woman” featuring Rosalía, “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me),” and “Born Again” with Doja Cat and Raye lending their voices. On release day, Lisa unleashed a fiery music video for “F**k Up the World,” cementing the album’s triumph. It’s still riding high, topping iTunes in nine countries and Apple Music in eight. Critics, though, are split. Some jab at Lisa for lacking a distinct edge, accusing her of shying away from bold creative leaps. Others sing her praises, spotlighting her magnetic charm and the album’s sonic range.
On March 2, Lisa took the stage at the 2025 Oscars for a James Bond tribute that turned heads. She belted out Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” from Live and Let Die (1973), followed by Doja Cat crooning Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever” from Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Raye delivering Adele’s “Skyfall” from Skyfall (2012). The trio faced online flak—Raye admitted to battling nerves, Doja Cat confessed she was terrified to perform, but Lisa stayed mum, opting for a simple thank-you post. Still, the Blackpink star emerged as one of the night’s most talked-about figures.
Back on February 16, Season 3 of The White Lotus (2021–present) premiered, marking Lisa’s first foray into acting. Reviews suggest she held her own, and she’s quick to note she earned the gig through a straight-up audition—no star power handouts here.
