Orbis Max - Oh Polaris
"It's a fable," explains Dw Dunphy, lead singer for Orbis Max of the latest single, "Oh Polaris." The track will be a part of a new album slated to be a part of a new album due this November.
Orbis Max has been working diligently on new tracks for the as-of-yet untitled new record. The band is composed of Don Baake, guitars; Craig Carlstrom, bass guitar; Dale Breeden, guitar; Bruce Walker, keyboards; Daniele Silvestri, drums; and Dunphy as vocalist.
"On the surface, the song is about the embodiment of Polaris, the North Star, as a woman who has a relationship with a man, but he invariably becomes too clingy and ends up ruining the romance," says Dunphy. He goes on to say that at the heart of the song, it is about insecurity and even a bit of Imposter's Syndrome. "When you meet someone who one might say is 'out of your league,' and that person cares about you, quite often you find yourself asking 'why' instead of focusing on the relationship itself."
Brought to life by Orbis Max, the key feature of the track is a steadily advancing rock edge, building from a gentle ballad to a more assured rocker, culminating in a full-bodied coda. "We're fans of dynamics," Dunphy adds. "You can hear that in Dale (Breeden's) guitar solo. We're all big fans of Steely Dan, so I think he channeled that elegance into that part, and teed up the power chords for the closer very well."
"Oh Polaris" is scheduled to be on all streaming services and is currently available on Bandcamp.
