Crypt Monarch - Codex Pestilentia

Necromantik stoner-doom ghouls Crypt Monarch arise from their tombs to reveal their new album, Codex Pestilentia, coming to life on September 5th via Things From Beyond (vinyl – USA), Heavy Threads (vinyl – UK/EU), Cognitive Discordance Records (CD), and Violence Records (cassette), as well as all major digital/streaming platforms.

Summoned amid the plague-ridden shroud of 2020 by the conjurors from Age of the Wolf and VoidOath, Crypt Monarch hail from San José, Costa Rica. The trio manifested their “necromantik stoner doom” on their debut LP, The Necronaut, in July 2021 via Electric Valley Records, chronicling the voyage of a dishonored king brought back from the dead to destroy his warlock’s enemies.

The sophomore tale, Codex Pestilentia, unfolds as a gripping narrative of hellish creatures, perilous travels, and the undying pride of a king, compelled to save his people. Across five tracks filled with thick, resin-infused stoner-doom, the record expands Crypt Monarch’s sonic vision with darker, more aggressive elements, involving erratic surges of gritty sludge abrasiveness, yet not completely bereft of the psychedelic surrealism of the debut LP.

“In a continuation of 2021’s album, we return 200 years later to a world devastated by the Necronaut and his army,” narrate Crypt Monarch. “Codex Pestilentia dwells in the story of a company of soldiers trying to reach a cursed book that contains spells and magic to seal evil away.”

“Leaving his home behind and appointed as their leader, Rex Septentriones marches with his army northwest toward the decimated land of Arikas,” Crypt Monarch add. “From there, they continue across the Last Desert. Once at the harbor at the far edge of the continent, they will sail south toward the land of Kiv’von. His goal is to retrieve the Codex Pestilentia and destroy the Evil hunting in the dark.
