Christian Bouchard - IV

Christian Bouchard - IV

“This new album brings together in contrast, three pieces of an abstract nature interspersed with two pieces drawing from soundscapes. These two facets have been an integral part of my artistic journey since the very beginning. The soundscape from which a perceptible musicality emerges and serves as a model, a material to be sculpted to bring it beyond the sound recording. And at the same time, abstraction in order to create new sound universes, devoid of references and therefore without sources of inspiration, while remaining attentive to the material.” — Christian Bouchard

Biography

Christian Bouchard creates unique and captivating sound worlds through the fluid assembly of soundscapes, experimental electronica, glitch, and acousmatic art. His musical style can be described as a thrilling interplay where energetic moments with nervous overtones are balanced by moments of suspension. For some, it can be a musical universe free of landmarks where one can get lost, but also where one can be carried along without worrying about form.

Christian Bouchard studied with Yves Daoust at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and was awarded First Prize in electroacoustic composition in 2000.

He is active in music for theatre, film, and installation, and in electronic music. He is a founding member (with Christian Calon, Mario Gauthier, and Monique Jean) of the live electroacoustic quartet Theresa Transistor (winner of the 2004-05 Prix Opus — Concert of the year — Musique actuelle, electroacoustic).

His music was awarded composition prizes at national and international competitions. In 2017 he was awarded the Joseph S Stauffer Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts (CCA).

Christian Bouchard is also working as a location sound recordist for cinema. The television series Les pays d’en haut on which he collaborated won the Best Sound: Fiction Award at the 36th Prix Gémaux in 2021.
