An Atonal Drone Study
At the end of December I spent four days in Geneva doing a sort of self-study residency in piano recording. I bought myself some static microphones (I'm not digging into the technical details, but I can say they're the cheapest on the market), and it was the first time I've handled this kind of thing and done a piano recording myself. It went well! As I went along, friends who were full of empathy (or exasperation?) lent me better equipment, I tried things out, listened, tried again, and I was able to do a few reasonably good takes. When I got home I was able to mix two tracks. The whole process is dizzying, and I'm happy to be learning and progressing little by little.

I had one main mission, and I was able to make a few other experiments, including a take of a kind of an atonal drone study. I'm quite happy with it, and I've posted it on my Faircamp site:

Asynchronous Drone Orchestra
The main mission was to record ten minutes of "a drone in D avoiding thirds, and with a few percussive sounds" for the Asynchronous Drone Orchestra project by Chelidon Frame, a drone artist based in Italy who makes a mix every two months with the contributions that various musicians send him. And it worked. It was released last Saturday on Camp Radio, it lasts an hour and it's very good work. Listen to it on Mixcloud here:
