Charli XCX Reigns Supreme at the 2025 Brit Awards
Charli XCX emerged as the undisputed star of the 2025 Brit Awards, held on March 1, sweeping up five trophies—including the coveted "Artist of the Year" and "Album of the Year" for her 2024 release Brat. She also snagged "Song of the Year" for "Guess," her collaboration with Billie Eilish, and took home the title of "Best Dance Act." Even before the night kicked off, she’d been crowned "Songwriter of the Year," while her longtime creative partner A.G. Cook was hailed as "Producer of the Year." While Charli basked in triumph, Dua Lipa walked away empty-handed despite four nominations—a rare shutout for the pop heavyweight.
Jade Thirlwall, formerly of Little Mix, claimed the "Best Pop Act" crown and lit up the stage with her hit "Angel of My Dreams," which peaked at number seven on the UK chart. Indie-rock troubadour Sam Fender, fresh off releasing his third album People Watching, notched a win in the rock and alternative category. He treated the crowd to a gritty performance of the album’s title track. The "Rising Star" nod went to 26-year-old Myles Smith, riding high on the success of "Stargazing" and "Nice to Meet You." Meanwhile, the jazz quintet Ezra Collective outshone heavyweights like Bring Me The Horizon, Coldplay, and The Cure to clinch "Group of the Year."
In the rap arena, Stormzy came out on top, while Raye reigned as the "Best R&B Act." The all-female rock outfit The Last Dinner Party earned "Best New Artist," a title backed by none other than Queen’s Brian May, who once dubbed them "the new elite of British rock."
Sabrina Carpenter scooped up the "Global Success" award, handed to her by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. Chappell Roan’s "Good Luck, Babe!" nabbed "International Song of the Year," and she also walked off with "Best International Artist." The Irish crew Fontaines D.C. rounded out the night as the "Best International Group."
