10-Year-Old Schoolboy Recites 280 Digits of Pi and Lands in the Guinness Book of Records
In the UK, 10-year-old Alberto Davila Aragon has etched his name into the Guinness Book of Records with an astonishing feat: reciting 280 digits of pi in a single minute. The news comes straight from the official Guinness World Records website.
The young prodigy traces his journey back to a school contest that lit the spark. There, he clinched victory by rattling off 150 digits. “In March 2024, my school held this thrilling pi-counting competition with an irresistible prize—dunking our principal’s face in a cake! Determined to win, I went home and vowed to memorize as many digits of pi as I could,” Alberto recalled with a grin.
That triumph was just the beginning. He kept at it, pushing to memorize even more digits and sharpening his speed. The secret to his swift recitation? Musical rhythms, he says, gave his tongue the tempo it needed.
For his record-breaking attempt, Alberto chose a spot with personal flair: the rooftop of the Clifton Observatory. To him, it’s a landmark with soul—offering a view of the suspension bridge he crosses daily on his way to school. Mathematicians from the University of Bristol were on hand to witness and verify his dazzling performance.
