Trailer Drops for Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme Starring Benicio Del Toro and Scarlett Johansson
Focus Features has unveiled the debut trailer for Wes Anderson’s dramedy The Phoenician Scheme, showcasing a stellar cast led by Benicio Del Toro, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Threapleton, and Michael Cera. At the heart of the story is Del Toro, who steps into the shoes of Zsa-zsa Korda, a wealthy magnate entangled in high-stakes espionage.
Zsa-zsa Korda ranks among Europe’s richest tycoons, wielding influence in aviation and arms trading across borders. Beyond his business empire, he presides over a sprawling family—nine sons and a single daughter, Lizsl, portrayed by Mia Threapleton. Lizsl, now a nun, unexpectedly becomes her father’s chosen heir to both the estate and the company.
As Zsa-zsa, Lizsl, and their aide Bjorn Lund (played by Michael Cera) work to secure the family legacy, they find themselves swept into a whirlwind of international intrigue. Speaking to Le Monde, Anderson hinted at the film’s tone: “My next feature will unfold in a straight line, with Benicio Del Toro in every frame. It’s a story of espionage and the bond between father and daughter—tinged, shall we say, with a rather dark mood. That’s all I’ll reveal for now.”
The ensemble also boasts talents like Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. This marks Anderson’s second collaboration with Johannson and Hanks, following their work together in Asteroid City (2023).
The Phoenician Scheme is set to hit theaters worldwide on June 6.
