Niles Philips makes a triumphant return with his latest offering, a captivating five-track release titled Shadow of the Observer. This unique downtempo project showcases five immersive tracks, each brimming with extraordinary warmth, mesmerizing grooves, and enchanting melodies.

The journey begins with "Lunatics Galore" a track that exudes refreshing downtempo coolness while seamlessly integrating funky elements. Its melodic structure elevates the listener, all set against a backdrop of rich, warm grooves. Following this, "Shared Silence" unfolds with a nostalgic piano melody, where smooth breakbeats weave a compelling narrative, harmonizing beautifully with the soothing vocals of Laila Vox.

Next, "Acting Freaky" takes the listener deeper into a heavier downtempo groove, infused with a dark trip-hop essence. Here, Laila Vox's warm and deep vocals once again add a layer of intrigue and emotion. The self-titled track "Shadow of the Observer" brings forth a robust downtempo groove, featuring a dub-heavy bassline that evokes the vintage lounge vibes reminiscent of the golden era of the 2000s.

Culminating the experience, the closing track "Drunken Mantis" immerses us in a mystical eastern-ethnic groove, inviting listeners on a mythical and spontaneous adventure. This release is a testament to Niles Philips' artistic vision, offering a rich tapestry of sound that resonates with everyone.

Junodownload Review:
Niles Philips delivers a masterful, genre-blurring journey with Shadow of the Observer, a smooth blend of trip hop, lounge, soul and downtempo styles. The album flows effortlessly, tying together diverse influences into a sound that's rich, stylish and deeply atmospheric. 'Lunatics Galore' kicks things off with laid-back, summery guitar strums layered over a relaxed trip hop beat, blending moody organ tones into a warm, hazy vibe. 'Shared Silence', featuring the sultry voice of Laila Vox, brings a haunting beauty, where delicate piano melodies and whispered vocals drift perfectly across the smoky beat. 'Acting Freaky', also with Laila Vox, switches gears into a soulful r&b trip, channelling 70s lounge vibes with a modern pop appeal that could easily cross over to wider audiences. The title track, 'Shadow Of The Observer', drifts into Air-like territory, full of spaced-out analogue modulations and a cinematic glow. 'Drunken Mantis' wraps it all up with a funky, urban groove touched by Japanese flavours, showcasing Philips' ear for unique textures and rhythms. Overall, Shadow of the Observer is a lush, impeccably smooth album that celebrates the art of being inspired by multiple styles without losing its soulful, magnetic core.
