Benson Boone, celebrated for his breakout hit «Beautiful Things», has introduced his latest single, «Mystical Magical». This track marks a departure from the soulful guitar-driven ballad of his earlier work, embracing a buoyant pop-rock sound infused with synthesizers.

The chorus of «Mystical Magical» evokes the infectious energy of Olivia Newton-John’s classic «Physical». This isn’t mere coincidence—it’s an official sample, with «Physical» songwriters Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick credited in the track’s liner notes.

The song made its live debut at Coachella 2025, though Boone’s performance was arguably overshadowed by another moment: his cover of Queen’s «Bohemian Rhapsody», performed alongside Queen guitarist Brian May. The rendition sparked a frenzy online, amassing 60 million views on Coachella’s official account alone. For some, Boone’s bold performance signaled the rise of a future star; others felt he fell short of Freddie Mercury’s inimitable legacy.

In its first day on Spotify, «Mystical Magical» racked up an impressive 2.2 million streams. It entered the U.S. Spotify chart at number 14 and the global chart at number 40—solid numbers for a new release. The track’s true staying power, however, will become clearer when the Billboard Hot 100 updates on May 5.

«Mystical Magical» is a precursor to Boone’s sophomore album, «American Heart», set for release on June 20. The album will also feature «Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else», a single unveiled in late February that peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to number 11 on Russia’s TopHit chart.

Boone’s star is undeniably rising. Rolling Stone featured him on the cover of its «Future of Music» issue, heralding him as a talent poised for global fame. Yet, not all are convinced. Some critics argue his overt nods to Freddie Mercury border on imitation, questioning whether his success will endure. The release of «American Heart» will likely settle the debate, revealing whether Boone can carve out a lasting place in the music world.
