Sümelga & Al Vox - Iconoclasta

Is today's world still capable of questioning its own certainties? Sümelga, in collaboration with Al Vox, return with "Iconoclasta" (PaKo Music Records/Believe Digital), a track that challenges every dogma, dismantles imposed convictions, and leads the listener to confront the unease of doubt. After blending social critique and philosophy with sharp irony in "Transustanziazione," the band from Brescia and the Genoese singer-songwriter strengthen their synergy in a journey of analysis and deconstruction, laying bare the dissatisfaction of a society clinging to pre-packaged truths for fear of looking beyond.

"Iconoclasta" moves between rough sounds and lyrics that alternate between reflection and provocation, painting a portrait of existential bewilderment and rejection of dominant patterns. The track becomes the mouthpiece of a bitter realization, neatly encapsulated in the line "We are already dead and haven't noticed," a phrase that echoes like a sentence on the condition of the modern individual, immersed in an alienating routine that nullifies critical thinking.

In the chorus, the affirmation "I am an iconoclast" becomes a mantra, a stance against pre-constructed narratives, but immediately after comes the contradiction: "Actually, never." A clear rejection that turns in on itself, revealing the awareness of how difficult it is to truly destroy dogmas when one is already part of the system that created them.

Supporting the message of "Iconoclasta" is a production, curated by the artists themselves, which is articulated on a perfect balance between rock and electronic music, creating a hypnotic and enveloping atmosphere. Distorted guitars and synthetic pulses follow one another, offering a crescendo of sounds and emotions that translate the dissent and apprehension of those seeking to escape rigid, established logics. The dark and layered sound merges with an insistent rhythm, capable of dragging the listener into a dimension suspended between rebellion and disorientation. A magnetic sonic embrace that amplifies the sense of existential bewilderment and the urgency to break the balance of the established order.

In a historical period marked by polarized information, the crisis of trust in institutions, and the incessant search for absolute certainties, "Iconoclasta" stands as a current and necessary reflection. According to a recent Edelman Trust Barometer report, in 2024, 64% of people globally stated that they have difficulty distinguishing facts from opinions. This data highlights how contemporary society is increasingly enslaved by pre-fabricated dogmas, unable to critically analyze reality.

Sümelga and Al Vox bring this theme to music, transforming it into a sonic experience of anger and disillusionment, resignation and resistance.

"We live in a world where everything seems already decided: what we must believe, what we must do, what we must think," say Sümelga. "'Iconoclasta' was born from the need to overturn this imposition and question everything, even ourselves. It is not a hymn to destruction, but an invitation to reflect on what is truly essential."

Al Vox adds:

"We wanted this song to be a jolt. A reflection on the fragility of certainties, but also on the courage not to accept them passively. If we don't learn to question the world, we will end up becoming just cogs in a system we didn't choose."

"Iconoclasta" challenges us to look beyond the obvious, leading us to ask ourselves an inevitable question: what does it truly mean to be iconoclasts today?

Biography.

Sümelga was formed on February 3, 2023, marking their debut with the single "Fuori c’è la nebbia" (Outside there is fog), a track that represents not only the band's starting point but also the first official production of the Moonrecordbs label, founded by Mirko Scarpellini, the group's producer and creator. The initial lineup included, in addition to Scarpellini, bassist and composer Leonardo Rizzo, aka Leo Rizz, and singer Matteo Loda. From their first steps, Sümelga distinguished themselves by their ability to continually reinvent themselves, mixing different influences and embarking on new musical directions. Their artistic growth is reflected in the release of tracks that embrace sophisticated sounds and in collaborations with external artists, demonstrating a versatility that makes them unique in the independent music scene. In 2024, the band expanded with the entry of Iacopo "Nopi" Bertolini on percussion and Anthony Valentino on guitars, who brought new energy and greater personality to their sound. This evolution marks a turning point in Sümelga's artistic journey, always oriented towards innovation and experimentation. In November 2024, Sümelga began a prestigious collaboration with the Milanese label PaKo Music Records, a strategic step that allows the group to expand their visibility and reach an increasingly wider audience. With a musical production that spans genres and atmospheres, the project establishes itself as one of the most promising and fresh realities of the independent music scene. Through a blend of creativity, authenticity, and a constantly evolving musical vision, Sümelga are ready to leave their mark, carrying forward a characteristic and nuanced sonic narrative.
