TOMASZ SROCZYNSKI - Mother Departs
In 2021, the Mind Travels collection released Symphony No. 2 / Highlander by the young Polish composer and violinist Tomasz Sroczynski. A work based on four long pieces for the violin, which was hailed for its boldness and its Goreckian influences.
If the young musician finds his inspiration confined to the Polish mountains, on the Slovakian border, he is no less eager for collaborations and new projects. So, when he was offered the opportunity to do the soundtrack of the TV show "Matka odchodzi" (Mother Departs) in 2021, Tomasz Sroczynski seized the opportunity and delivered ten striking tracks!
"Mother Departs" is a play based on the work of Tadeusz Różewicz. It was adapted and directed by Przemysław Stippa, then broadcast in 2022 by TVP Kultura, a Polish cultural channel, equivalent to arte in France. Tomasz Sroczynski composed the soundtrack and was recently awarded the prize for best music at the Polish Two Theaters Festival.
The tracks are shorter than on his previous compositions, but Mother Departs still has the same distinctive Eastern European atmosphere. Tomasz Sroczynski's work is modern, as in his previous symphonies, thanks in particular to his ability to merge acoustic instruments with electronica. The main theme, "Theme", is a perfect illustration of the Polish composer's ability to develop a melodic structure around a central axis. For this soundtrack, Tomasz Sroczynski also uses choirs on several tracks such as "Wedding", "Birth" or the magnificent "Final", a remarkable tribute to the death of a loved one, and to all those emotions that are difficult to express other than through music.
