Kasper Agnas - 1305
1305 is a first presentation of Kasper Agnas as composer. Here are two pieces of different character, one for a larger ensemble of 14 musicians, and a solo piece for piano. In search of capturing eternity, Kasper has tried to frame the feeling of being unexpectedly thrown into something that doesn’t have an end. A kind of formless music, which doesn’t try to say something concrete.
”Imber is a flow of phrases of few notes, which are played by a leading instrumentalist (me, in this case), which the other players are trying to follow. The idea was to capture the freer, flying rhythmics often found in jazz or freely improvised music, in a more organized situation. The result is a rain of notes, contrasted by a static rhythmical figure of handclaps to emphasize the light floating feeling of not standing on solid ground.”
Little towels of air, warm and wrapping against the heart was composed during the summer of 2019. The title comes from a short story by Tao Lin. ”I had read that when Hemingway was writing short stories and was done for the day, he always stopped at a place in the text where he knew he easily could continue the following day. I was inspired by that technique and decided to try it in a very simple manner in a musical context. I wrote 5-20 chords each day and one day when I felt I had enough there was suddenly a composition. This technique made the form of this piece very different from the music I had written before. There was no form. Hopefully, it provides the listeners with the possibility of creating their own form. To find their own peaks and resting points.”
