Evanescence Drops Afterlife for Devil May Cry Series

Evanescence has unveiled their latest single, "Afterlife," created for the animated series Devil May Cry. This marks the band’s first release in four years, following their most recent album, The Bitter Truth, which hit the airwaves in 2021. Alongside the track, the band debuted a lyric video steeped in the dark, dynamic aesthetic of Devil May Cry. The series itself is just around the corner, set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, drawing inspiration from the iconic video game of the same name.

The song "Afterlife" was penned by Evanescence’s lead singer, Amy Lee, in collaboration with American DJ Mako, known for his work on the Arcane soundtrack (2021–2024). Mako also stepped into the producer’s chair for the track, joined by Nick Raskulinecz, a seasoned collaborator with numerous rock acts, including Evanescence themselves.

Currently, Evanescence is hard at work on fresh material, as Amy Lee revealed in a recent chat with Loudwire. The singer shared that the band is "happily and deeply immersed in the creative flow of a new album" while juggling "a couple of side projects like ‘Afterlife.’" This suggests that "Afterlife" won’t find a home on their next record. Lee also noted that the single was the first piece they recorded upon returning to the studio after The Bitter Truth.

In 2022, Amy Lee teamed up with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame to deliver a haunting cover of The Everly Brothers’ "Love Hurts," perhaps best recognized in Nazareth’s rendition. That same year, she lent her voice to Lindsey Stirling’s track "Love Goes On and On," featured on the album Artemis. Earlier in 2024, Evanescence dropped a music video for "Yeah Right" from The Bitter Truth, weaving in footage from their live performances.
