Lana Del Rey’s Bluebird: A Song Inspired by a Feathered Messenger
Lana Del Rey recently unveiled the tender tale behind her song «Bluebird», a track born from a moment that stirred her soul. The spark for the song came when a bird collided with her window, an incident that left the singer in awe and introspection.
Del Rey has often felt that «nature has its own way of speaking to you, especially in moments of deep turmoil». The story began a few years ago when a phone call invited her for a walk. Caught between excitement and hesitation, she agreed. At that very moment, a bird struck her bedroom window. Startled, Del Rey opened the window and found a tiny creature—perhaps a sparrow or a swallow—lying there, fragile and dazed.
In this unexpected visitor, Del Rey saw a sign. Cradling the bird gently, she began to sing, «Little bird, little bird, fly away for both of us». Those words would become the opening line of «Bluebird». Overwhelmed by emotion, Del Rey felt a surge of empathy, her heart torn for both herself and the delicate creature in her hands.
«Bluebird» premiered on April 18, following closely on the heels of another single, «Henry, Come On». Both tracks are slated to appear on Del Rey’s forthcoming tenth album. Initially titled «The Right Person Will Stay» with a planned release date of May 21, the album’s name and launch have since been reconsidered, with details yet to be announced.
Del Rey’s most recent album, «Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd», arrived in March 2023. In 2024, the internet buzzed with talk of her personal life after she quietly married tour guide Jeremy Dufrene, a man significantly older than her, in September. While some criticized her unexpected choice, others championed her decision, insisting that her happiness is what truly matters.
