Just Guess - United in the Struggle
Fresh on the music scene, Just Guess will release their debut album, "United in the Struggle" on 21 July on CD and digitally via Italian micro label Zona 167. This highly original release is a fusion of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and grime, showcasing the band's unique blend of styles and raw talent.
At the heart of Just Guess is the enigmatic singer, Miss JB, a young Italian-American performer. With a past marked by hardship and personal struggles, Miss JB's powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics resonate deeply. Her voice, often compared to the likes of Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse, delivers a raw authenticity that sets her apart.
Joining forces with the talented multi-instrumentalist and producer Vlad T. Addams, Just Guess has created a sonic masterpiece. The album's tracks explore themes of love, loss, resilience, and social justice, offering a diverse and thought-provoking listening experience.
"United in the Struggle" is a testament to the band's artistic vision and dedication. Recorded in Luxembourg and partly remotely, the album showcases their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality music.
The album’s second track, "Unity in the Struggle", is a powerful tribute to Martin Luther King, a soulful R&B track featuring Miss JB's mesmerising vocals. Beyond that, the album delves into a series of compelling narratives. Listeners will be drawn into the gritty world of crime with tracks like "Grime Anthem", which tells the story of two arrested twins, and "Two Men Two Sides", which chronicles the tale of two friends embarking on a robbery.
For a lighter touch, the album offers delightful love songs such as "Breakfast In Bed" and "With You", which blend dance and hip-hop elements. However, the album doesn't shy away from darker subject matter, exploring themes of violence in "Shattered Love" and addressing the struggles of addiction in "Cocaine" and "Whiskey Confessions".
One of the album's standout tracks is "Merry Christmas to the Ones Who Don't Even Care", a poignant song that extends compassion and goodwill even to those who may not deserve it.
Despite its diverse musical landscape, "United in the Struggle" maintains a cohesive atmosphere that is both fresh and modern.
Miss JB shares, "I've honestly had a very hard life, I've been kind of a crazy horse around for years. Now I'm taking care of myself, I've always written a lot and in the last two years I've studied a bit of singing and I've started to do something on my own, focusing a lot on my voice and imitating different performers. For me it was an outlet, a pastime. Then through friends I met Vlad T. Addams, a great musician, he gave me many compliments and encouraged me to sing something for him. With his guys they sent me 5 bases in one week, and each was more beautiful than the other. The lyrics fit together perfectly and the album is a bit of a mix of many moods, the lyrics are very deep, we never say swear words, and I think it is also very painful, all of us are proud of it.”
Vlad T. Addams adds, "I've always wanted to make a record so calibrated, classic and modern at the same time. When I realised that we had a singer halfway between Joria Smith, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson I understood that it would be easy to leave her totally free to interpret anything and the result scared us much more than my horror band!."
