Ida Duelund - Misi Miamo

Ida Duelund - Misi Miamo

Misi Miamo is the first song to be released from Ida Duelund’s upcoming album Sibo - a surrealistic musical work for instruments, vocals and digitally generated imagery by Maya SB.

Misi Miamo is a celebration of poetry and fantasy in its purest form. It is a gentle and fantastical image of human experience with zero consideration to current musical trends or fashion.

The song is driven by gentle nylon guitar and understated vocals surrounded by Duelund’s bowed double basses, Nils Gröndahl’s detuned violins and Liss Wessberg’s trombone. The songwriting is thorough and consciously old fashioned, drawing from jazz standards and classical film music. The lyrics are written in a fictional language and shares no glosses with the language used in newspapers, books, political conversation or any other linguistic exchange. Through this complete absence of prescribed meaning, it offers an open space for the listener's own curiosity, fantasy and emotion.

Artwork and video are made with visual artist Maya SB, whose digital and uncanny look contributes to the surrealistic character of the work. Amidst the eerie musical nostalgia, a deconstructed digital character is floating in an endless sea of jeans, looking for their eyes, looking for their teeth, looking for their shape, drifting seemingly without direction?

Misi Miamo is a modern day musical dadaism that softly suggests a gentle and fantastical alternative to definitive thinking.

Full album Sibo will be released: January 24th, 2025

Biography

Ida Duelund is a Danish composer and bassist based in Copenhagen. Her work is primarily centered around the live contrabass and moves playfully between melodic writing and experimental electronic processing of the old instrument. Additionally, she has since 2016 dedicated part of her practice to instrumental composition of other kinds - both writing for orchestra, film- and dance pieces. A common thread in her work is a devotion to the power of wordless music and how this can communicate a certain part of the lived human experience.

She is co-founder of the string duo Lueenas and has collaborated with Nordisk Film, Madame Gandhi, Marilyn Mazur, Baby In Vain, The Danish Royal Theatre, The National Danish Radio, Frk Jacobsen, Barbro, Jomi, Emma Acs, Trentemøller, Martin De Thurah and many more. Awarded Tivoli Jazz Price ‘Musician of the Year’ in 2023.
