Apple TV+ released "The Gorge" on February 14, starring Miles Teller ("Whiplash") and Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Queen's Gambit"). Critics have already shared their thoughts on the new release. Some reviews suggest it's a romantic take on the Resident Evil game series.

On Rotten Tomatoes, "The Gorge" holds a 61% rating based on 66 reviews at the time of writing. Flickering Myth praised the film for its harmonious blend of horror and romantic melodrama. It also drew comparisons to the Capcom games behind the Resident Evil franchise:

"In 'The Gorge,' director Scott Derrickson ['Doctor Strange'] and screenwriter Zach Dean ['Fast X'] skillfully balance intrigue, romance, and silly old-school horror action in the spirit of Capcom video games."

Fish Jelly Films didn't appreciate the Resident Evil vibe:

"The premise is interesting, but the film feels like an overly long romantic comedy based on Resident Evil (not in a good way)."

Punch Drunk Critics praised the action, monsters, and touching love story:

"Amazing action, monsters, a dark fantasy world, and a beautiful love story."

Movie Web wasn't thrilled with "The Gorge." According to the critic, the beginning of the film is intriguing, but the ending is weak:

"'The Gorge' holds interest, but doesn't deliver on it."

Fandom Wire believes that the creators failed to realize an interesting idea:

"This is a high-budget film with ambitious ideas. But none of them are revealed. You will spend two hours of your life in almost complete boredom."

In "The Gorge," two snipers (Teller and Taylor-Joy) receive an important assignment. They must guard different sides of a gorge and prevent mysterious entities from getting out.
