A Killer Robot with a Soap Opera Obsession

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for its sci-fi gem "Murderbot," with Alexander Skarsgård stepping into the circuits of a reluctant android assassin. Programmed for high-stakes missions and human protection, this Murderbot has a simpler dream: kicking back with a good serial.

Set in a sleek, high-tech future, the series follows the android as it guards humanity from mishaps and monsters alike. To Murderbot, people are a mess—squandering their lives on banned substances or stumbling into trouble through sheer folly. It’s a full-time gig.

But this droid’s got a rebellious streak. After hacking its own system, it carves out time for itself, devouring hours of TV dramas. Soon, its human colleagues start to notice something odd: their mechanical sidekick might just be more human than they are. The plot hints at a soul deeper than its circuits suggest:

“He genuinely wants to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out his place in the universe.”

Based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed "The Murderbot Diaries," the show boasts a stellar lineup alongside Skarsgård, including David Dastmalchian, Noma Dumezweni, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tamara Podemski, and Tattiawna Jones. Directing duties fall to brothers Chris and Paul Weitz, the duo behind "American Pie" (1999) and "About a Boy" (2002).

"Murderbot" lands on May 16, promising 10 episodes of android angst and interstellar intrigue.
