Ed Sheeran has unveiled his latest creation, «Azizam»—a lively dance track steeped in Persian musical influences. Alongside the song, he’s released a playful music video where he roams the streets, a heart-shaped balloon in tow.

The track came to life in collaboration with Ilya, a Swedish producer of Persian descent known for his work with Ariana Grande. «Azizam», a term of endearment meaning «my dear» or «my beloved» in Persian, carries a personal touch that resonates through its rhythm.

While working together, Sheeran and Ilya stumbled upon a delightful discovery: the echoes of Persian folk music felt strikingly similar to the Irish melodies close to Sheeran’s half-Irish heart. Reflecting on the process, Sheeran shared:

«It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve done before, yet "Azizam" feels like home to me. I wanted to craft a party vibe, and Ilya brought the spark to make it happen. Working with him was a burst of inspiration.»

Sheeran has long been drawn to the music of other cultures, a passion fueled by his travels and conversations with people from all walks of life. To him, it’s like stepping into a thrilling new realm. Not every idea lands, though—earlier this year, he tried to stage an impromptu street concert in India, only to have local police shut it down.

Co-written with Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol fame, «Azizam» is set to feature on Sheeran’s upcoming album, «Play». While the release date remains under wraps, Sheeran has hinted at a bold return to pop’s center stage—a promise this track’s infectious energy seems to keep. In 2023, he gifted fans two introspective folk-leaning records, «Subtract» and «Autumn Variations», both shaped by The National’s Aaron Dessner. Now, with «Azizam», he’s ready to set the dancefloor alight.
