Sabrina Carpenter has unveiled plans for her new album, “Man’s Best Friend,” slated to drop on August 29—almost exactly a year after her 2024 record, “Short n’ Sweet.” The album’s lead single, “Manchild,” debuted on June 5, setting the stage for what promises to be a bold new chapter.

In her own words, Carpenter hadn’t intended to release another album so soon, but a surge of inspiration changed her plans. Alongside the announcement, she shared the album’s cover art, which has stirred a mixed response from fans. Here’s a glimpse of the polarizing image:

The reveal, posted on social media, sparked a flurry of reactions. Many fans expressed discomfort with the cover, some even critiquing its pairing with the album’s title, “Man’s Best Friend.” Others leapt to Carpenter’s defense, urging detractors not to take the artwork too seriously, pointing to the playful irony that often threads through her work. Regardless of the divide, Carpenter has undeniably captured the spotlight—a move that may well have been her intention all along.

This isn’t the first time Carpenter has faced scrutiny. Critics have previously called out her provocative stage moves, noting her significant underage fanbase. Supporters, however, argue that her concerts aren’t meant for kids and that her lyrics clearly signal a mature audience.

As for “Manchild,” the track is already generating serious chart buzz, with some predicting it could claim the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Its early success is undeniable: the song currently reigns atop Spotify’s U.S. charts, racking up nearly 30 million streams. But it faces stiff competition from Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which has held the Billboard crown for two consecutive weeks. While “Ordinary” sits at number three on Spotify’s U.S. rankings, its strong radio play—third on the radio chart compared to “Manchild’s” distant 90th—gives it an edge. The next Billboard Hot 100 update, due Monday evening, June 16, will reveal whether Carpenter’s gamble pays off.
