Tom Hiddleston Lives Life in Reverse in "The Life of Chuck" Trailer
Neon has released the first trailer for "The Life of Chuck," featuring Tom Hiddleston as Charles "Chuck" Krantz, an unassuming accountant. Adapted from Stephen King’s novella of the same name, found in his 2020 collection If It Bleeds, the story unfolds in reverse, tracing Chuck’s life from his death back to his childhood.
Chuck’s seemingly ordinary existence as a number-cruncher belies a mysterious truth: his passing sets off an inexplicable unraveling of the world around him. As the narrative rewinds, Chuck journeys through his youth, ultimately arriving at a childhood spent in a house rumored to be haunted by ghosts.
The film is helmed by director Mike Flanagan, no stranger to King’s universe. Flanagan previously brought Gerald’s Game (2017) and Doctor Sleep (2019) to the screen and is currently developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower. Joining Hiddleston is a stellar ensemble, including Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Matthew Lillard, Jacob Tremblay, Harvey Guillén, Samantha Sloyan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
"The Life of Chuck" premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it captivated critics. Many hailed it as one of the finest King adaptations, drawing comparisons to The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Green Mile (1999). Reviews praised its blend of heartfelt emotion and eerie unease, noting that, while not a traditional horror, the film delivers a poignant fantasy drama.
"The Life of Chuck" is set to hit theaters on June 6.
