Spectrum Vates interview. Pupille d’alabastro
An Italian artist with a refined and deeply emotional language, Spectrum Vates invites us to listen to "Pupille d’alabastro", a song that speaks of love with the delicacy of poetry. We interviewed him to better understand his journey, his artistic vision, and what he wants to communicate through his music.
How would you define your musical and poetic style?
Good question. My musical style is conscious emotional rap. This musical genre merges rap with an awareness of the emotions we experience. Those who listen to my songs should be able to internalize my lyrics, channeling them into a pure and concrete emotion.
"Pupille d’alabastro" is a song rich in imagery and meaning. What is the main message you want to convey?
Definitely that true love exists and that very often we live eternal moments with lightness. The soulmate is a concept created by man, but it truly exists. I hope everyone can experience what I am experiencing and what I have encapsulated within the song.
For those who don't understand the Italian language, what emotions would you like to convey to their hearts?
Even without knowing the language, one can grasp the core of the song, thanks to my friend and collaborator Diego Fabbri, who composed the melody. The piano played by Diego transmits the exact same emotions expressed by the lyrics, amplifying them even more. There is love, security, warmth, respect, and lightness, all fundamental in a love story.
What is the most intimate moment of the creative process for you?
When I open the notes on my phone and, in the throes of a very rapid creative process, I begin to jot down the first draft of my lyrics. All the "emotional adventures" that led me to write certain words are condensed there.
Do you believe that love, today, is still an authentic source of artistic inspiration?
Love has always been and will forever be the feeling that moves the world, not just from an artistic point of view. We live in a world where love is taken for granted and is thought of as a feeling tied to a relationship with another person. However, there are various kinds of love that can inspire: love for a particular situation, for a memory, for an animal, for life itself. So yes, love will always be an inspiration for someone.
Which Italian or international artists do you feel closest to your style?
I'm trying to create a musical genre that is clearly recognizable as "mine," so I couldn't tell you if there's any artist similar to me. However, I can certainly list the artists who have been an inspiration for my personal and musical growth and who have certainly tempered my writing. To name a few rappers: Mostro, Caparezza, Enigma, Salmo, Fabri Fibra, Nitro, Murubutu, Claver Gold, Pathos. But there's also a thread of indie artists who inspire me, as I find the irreverent writing and the use of terms often disconnected from the musical sphere very fascinating. Again, to name a few: Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Carl Brave, Fulminacci.
Would you like to perform in Eastern Europe? Have you ever had contact with the Ukrainian audience?
I've never had contact with the Ukrainian audience, but I would love to perform abroad, including in Eastern Europe. The beauty of music is that it's international; it can evoke strong emotions even without understanding the words. Each song has its own soul, transmitted by the melody, by the tonality, detached from the lyrics themselves, but representing the same rhetoric.
What is the most powerful memory associated with this song?
The first encounter with true love is never forgotten, and that day is etched in my brain, as can be gathered from the opening of the song. Every single landscape detail: the clothes we wore, the people around us, the light summer breeze, the rooftops of the houses, the surrounding hills with hay bales. Everything was fundamental to what would be the beginning of our love story: a stolen kiss.
If you could make only one person in the world listen to this song, who would it be?
My wife, the mother of my daughter. She would be the person to whom I would repeat those sweet words full of emotion every single day of my life, to remind her that I owe her everything.
In three words: what is music to you?
Outlet, well-being, life. Music is everything. It makes you feel good when you're down, it energizes you when you need it, it gives you the strength to live every single day.
