Rockers Galore - Sweet Sensei
Philadelphia reggae-hip hop collective Rockers Galore presents 'Sweet Sensei', a summer anthem that's pure sunshine in sonic form and the latest taster of their debut record 'Vamos a la Playa'. This collaborative track was inspired by the love of music and sinsemilla, nature's elixir and bringer of verdant euphoria. Fusing musical talents and cultural influences, Rockers Galore takes us on a journey through sound and storytelling, celebrating the power of collaboration and the enduring allure of sinsemilla.
"Tracing the origins of sinsemilla, 'Sweet Sensei' was inspired by Iya Terra's song 'Real Sensi'. Adam came up with a great guitar melody when we started writing this song. We ended up crafting the beat around it, explains Blayer Point du Jour.
"I wanted to write about the origins of sinsemilla, which grows all over the world. I mentioned Haiti and Peru because I am Haitian and Adam is Peruvian. We hope to visit Peru soon. I created the drum and bass parts. Adam wrote a great guitar melody. Michael created the final drum tacks. Once we started jamming, we eventually crafted the song around the guitar. Oxana laid down some amazing piano. We went to Milkboy the Studio and worked with Tommy Joyner. Talia added some amazing vocals to the track. It was great to work with her again."
The 'Sweet Sensei' video arrives on the trail of their invigorating single 'Blood In The Sand', featuring Philadelphia guitarist Joe Jordan (Oxymorrons, Pure Hell, JJX) and a passionate Spanish-language spoken word performance by Sydelle Prosopio.
This new single and most of the album tracks were recorded, mixed & mastered at Milkboy the Studio by Tommy Joyner (of Digable Planets), who has overseen recordings by James Taylor, Dave Matthews and Miley Cyrus, among many other notable artists. 'Blood In The Sand' is the excption, being mixed & mastered by Arik Creep at Creep Records Studio.
Founded in 2008 by multi-instrumentalist Blayer Point du Jour, Rockers Galore began as a solo project, transforming into a songwriting partnership with guitarist Adam Benites and gradually involving other passionate and visionary artists. With a fantastic and infectious fusion of old-school funk and brand-new spunk, they cleverly blend roots, hip hop, reggae, rock, Haitian kompa music and Latin rhythms. Since releasing their debut 'Port Au Prince' EP in 2011, they have released numerous singles and EPs.
Truly a labor of love, their forthcoming 'Vamos a la Playa' album is the product of four years of songwriting, rehearsals, pre-production and arrangements. From initial sketches through to full realization, the tracks found on this album eventually crystallized in a professional studio, where the final recordings were completed and ultimately mixed and mastered.
Blayer Point du Jour explains, "For this album, we took our time and waited until we felt inspired to write. This is a mix of rhythms we enjoy playing. We aim to honor our diverse backgrounds in music and create a new sound that people have not heard before. We believe this is our best work to date. I grew up with a lot of first-generation Americans. We all came from different backgrounds but we learned to respect each others’ cultures. I try to mix the genres in an effort to bring everyone together.”
'Sweet Sensei' is out now, available from fine digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where 'Blood In The Sand' can also be found. The full 'Vamos a la Playa' album will be released on September 13.
