MOSKITOO - Unspoken Poetry

MOSKITOO - Unspoken Poetry

“Voice is sound, and words are resonance.
Rather than converging toward meaning, the voice, sound, words, and resonance scatter and expand throughout the world. Melody and texture.
Faint, fragile, yet graceful music.”
— Atsushi Sasaki (HEADZ)

“Whenever I listen to Unspoken Poetry, a quiet scene suddenly appears. One day, it is like a delicate piece of paper drifting in the air. On its surface, transparent letters, fluttering sticky notes, glittering stickers, and the sky peeking through holes made by staples. As the thin paper disappears into the air, the sticky notes, stickers, and staples transform into nebulae, floating in space… Through Moskitoo’ s undulating sounds, colors, shapes, and phenomena are projected onto our retinas. A rare echo of ripples in water. A person who, with pure clarity, offers the possibilities of perception to the depths of the world.”
— Naoyo Fukuda (Artist)

Moskitoo's third full-length album, Unspoken Poetry, was released on October 4th by the Japanese label HEADZ/WEATHER.

Unspoken Poetry was inspired by unread, untold fragments of poetry, the presence and absence in the corners of existence, and the intertwining of timelines. Like her previous works, Moskitoo wrote and composed all 11 tracks herself.

In addition to electronic instruments, guitar, glockenspiel, and music box, the album features sounds sampled from stones, wood, and non-instruments. Sounds from video footage, test recordings, and repeated accidental errors also play a crucial role, weaving a delicate, hazy soundscape.

Each sound is carefully layered, deconstructed, and reconstructed, gently transforming the textures and contours of the music, dissolving the boundaries between fantasy and reality.

The mixing, as with her previous album, was handled by Keiichi Sugimoto (FourColor, fonica), an electronic musician with over 20 years of experience. The mastering was done by Taylor Deupree, the head of 12k. The artwork and lyric sheet were also designed by Moskitoo herself.

Biography

Moskitoo is a Japanese electronic musician. Since the release of her debut album Drape on New York’s 12k label in 2007, founded by Taylor Deupree, she has released two  albums on 12k. Her third album, Unspoken Poetry, was released in October 2024 by the Japanese label HEADZ.

Moskitoo’s music uniquely blends her vocals with a variety of instruments, such as guitar and toy glockenspiel, alongside sounds from everyday objects and non-instruments. Improvisational ideas, accidental errors, and unintended sounds are also key elements, contributing to the delicate and intricate soundscapes she creates. From exploring the sonic textures of each note to handling vocals, track production, and artwork, she is involved in every step of the creative process.
