Avengers: Secret Wars Will Kick Off the X-Men Reboot in the MCU
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has announced that the crossover "Avengers: Secret Wars" will hint at the plot of the X-Men reboot. This will be the beginning of a new era for mutants.
Kevin Feige shared details about the future of the X-Men in an interview with Deadline. He has already said that all new films after "Deadpool and Wolverine" (2024) will become part of the mutant era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Now he called the sixth "Avengers" a full-fledged start to the story of the X-Men of the MCU:
"It [the appearance of mutants in MCU projects in the spirit of "Deadpool and Wolverine"] will continue in some of the following films with the X-Men, whom you may recognize. In the end, the whole story of "Secret Wars" will truly lead us into a new era of mutants and the X-Men. The dream is coming true. We've finally got the X-Men back."
In 2019, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, thanks to which Marvel Studios gained the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Therefore, in recent years, mutants have been increasingly shown in MCU films. Thus, in the series "Miss Marvel" it was confirmed that Miss Marvel (Iman Vellani) is a mutant. In addition, Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) appeared in the films "The Marvels" (2023) and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (2022). In "Deadpool and Wolverine," it was hinted that the mutants Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will remain in the Marvel cinematic universe.
The main villain in the films "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Secret Wars" will be Doctor Doom from an alternate reality. The role will be played by Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in previous Marvel films.
"Fantastic Four: First Steps" will be released worldwide on July 25, "Avengers: Endgame" on May 1, 2026, and "Avengers: Secret Wars" on May 7, 2027.
