Mickey 17 Kicks Off with $50 Million at the Global Box Office
Bong Joon-ho’s satirical sci-fi gem Mickey 17 has stormed the global box office, pulling in $53 million within its first 10 days of release, according to Variety.
In the U.S., the film—headlined by Robert Pattinson—grossed $19.1 million, while international markets contributed a robust $34.2 million. Warner Bros. poured roughly $200 million into the project, a figure that encompasses both production and a splashy marketing campaign. Fans in Russia, however, won’t see an official release.
Adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7, the story unfolds in a near-future where specialized clones aid humanity in colonizing distant planets. The plot follows Mickey Barnes, a clone dispatched to tame a new world, only to vanish. Upon his return, he’s confronted by an eerie replacement—an android mirror of himself.
The film boasts a stellar ensemble, with Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie sharing the screen. Critics have embraced Mickey 17, awarding it a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 73 out of 100 on Metacritic.
