"Bambi: The Reckoning" Trailer Unleashes a Killer Deer
The first trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning has clawed its way out, turning Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi and Disney’s 1942 cartoon into a blood-soaked fever dream. In this horror spin, Bambi morphs into a ruthless killer deer, and the internet’s dubbing it a mashup of Jurassic Park’s prehistoric chaos and the rabid dread of Stephen King’s Cujo (1983).
The plot follows Xana (Roxanne McKee of Game of Thrones) and her son Benji (Tom Mulrone of Black Mirror), who survive a car wreck only to find themselves hunted by a mutated Bambi. Driven mad by grief, this vengeful beast craves payback for his mother’s death, targeting every human in sight.
Bambi: The Reckoning slots into the “Twisted Childhood Universe,” kicked off by the Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey duo (2023, 2024). Jagged Edge Productions isn’t done with Pooh yet—a third installment’s in the works. Steering this nightmarish Bambi is Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the director behind the teddy-bear terror flicks. Bloody Disgusting pegged the project as a cocktail of Cujo and Jurassic Park. Director Dan Allen (Stranded) promises a brutal ride:
“It’s going to be savage. After this, folks will spot a deer in the wild and bolt for the hills. This film tears childhood apart—expect gore, tears, rabbits, and one downright creepy killer stag. At last, the British countryside gets its own Godzilla.”
2025 is shaping up as a banner year for the franchise’s trash-horror spree. Next up are Peter Pan: Nightmare in Neverland (out March 27) and Pinocchio: Unstrung. A crossover, Poohverse: Monsters Assemble, is slated for 2025 or 2026, reuniting Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi, Peter Pan (Martin Portlock), and Pinocchio in a monstrous mashup.
