"Happy Gilmore 2" Premiere Date Set for July

Netflix has locked in the premiere date for the sports comedy Happy Gilmore 2, set to hit screens in July. Adam Sandler is back in the saddle as the quirky golfer Happy Gilmore.

Deadline reports the sequel to Happy Gilmore (1996) will drop on July 25. Plot details remain under wraps, but the original saw Happy stumble into a golf tournament to scrape together cash and save his grandma’s house from debt—only to fall head over heels for the game. Back then, he’d been dead-set on hockey stardom.

In this follow-up, Happy’s set to tangle once more with his old nemesis, Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald. Familiar faces Virginia Venit (Julie Bowen) and orderly Hal (Ben Stiller) are also teeing up for a return.

Sandler’s dropped hints that the film will tip its cap to departed stars from the first flick—Carl Weathers (1948–2024), Joe Flaherty (1941–2024), and Bob Barker (1923–2023). Their characters might get a nod, though details are hazy.

Happy Gilmore 2 promises a parade of cameo glitter. Rappers Eminem (8 Mile) and Bad Bunny (Bullet Train) will pop in, alongside NFL standout Travis Kelce and a slew of golf pros: John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris. The cast rounds out with Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer), the latter having directed Sandler in the gritty Uncut Gems (2019).

Steering the ship is director Kyle Newacheck, who teamed with Sandler on Murder Mystery and helmed What We Do in the Shadows. Sandler co-wrote the script with Tim Herlihy, the duo behind the original’s zany charm.
