Oscar Nunez Returns as Oscar Martinez in "The Paper"

Oscar Nunez, a beloved face from the sitcom The Office (2005–2013), is set to slip back into the shoes of Oscar Martinez for the spin-off The Paper. Word has it he might land a gig as an accountant in a newspaper office.

According to Variety, Oscar won’t steal the spotlight in The Paper, but he’ll carve out a meaningful niche in the story. Much like its predecessor, this series thrives on an ensemble cast—no single star hogging the stage, just a handful of crisscrossing lives under the lens. Details about Oscar’s arc remain tightly under wraps, and there’s no word yet on whether other familiar faces from The Office will pop in.

In The Office, Oscar crunched numbers as an accountant at the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, the quirky paper supplier. The spin-off shifts the scene to the fading world of a newspaper staff, with the same mockumentary crew—fresh off chronicling Michael Scott’s team (Steve Carell)—now poking their cameras into this new workplace. Could Oscar be tallying ledgers for the paper? Or perhaps he’s just dropping by to catch up with an old pal in publishing? Time will tell.

The Paper is being shaped by The Office creator Greg Daniels alongside Michael Koman (Nathan for You). The cast already boasts talents like Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars), Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), and Melvin Gregg (Snowfall). Peacock, the streaming home of Brave New World and The Continental, will bring the series to life.

The American The Office itself sprang from a British original (2001–2003), though it’s the U.S. version—starring Nunez, Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson—that won hearts worldwide. The concept has since spawned adaptations in Australia, France, Canada, and Germany, with a Mexican remake now in the works.
