"Shrek 5" First Look: Zendaya Joins as Grown-Up Felicia

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first teaser for the highly anticipated "Shrek 5," introducing a grown-up Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona, voiced by Zendaya ("Dune," "Euphoria").

In the 27-second clip, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asks the Magic Mirror (Chris Miller) who is the fairest of them all. The mirror unexpectedly displays a series of silly photos and videos of Shrek (Mike Myers). A snapshot of a buff Shrek shocks his friends and Felicia, while Fiona is delighted by her husband's newfound physique. Pinocchio (Cody Cameron) denies editing the photo, but his nose betrays him, growing rapidly.

At the end of "Shrek the Third" (2007), Fiona gave birth to triplets, including Felicia and her brothers, Farkle and Fergus. In "Shrek Forever After" (2010), the children were toddlers. It's expected that Felicia's brothers will also return in the fifth installment, likely as teenagers. The teaser suggests that Felicia will be a central character in the new film.

"Shrek 5" is directed by franchise veterans Walt Dohrn ("Trolls," "SpongeBob SquarePants"), Conrad Vernon ("Madagascar 3"), and Brad Ableson ("Minions: The Rise of Gru"). Vernon directed "Shrek 2" (2004), and Dohrn co-wrote the screenplay.

DreamWorks Animation released the first "Shrek" film in 2001, which grossed $484 million worldwide on a $60 million budget and won an Oscar. The success of the film led to three sequels (2004, 2007, 2010) and several short films. Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) also received a spin-off duology (2011, 2022), and a spin-off about Donkey is also in development.

"Shrek 5" is set to hit theaters worldwide on December 23, 2026.
