James Bond Franchise Acquired by Amazon MGM Studios
Longtime James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are stepping down, with control of the 007 films passing to Amazon MGM Studios, which has long sought to acquire the iconic British franchise.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the heads of Amazon MGM, with the participation of Broccoli and Wilson, will create a new entity that will own the rights to "James Bond." An important clarification: creative control over future 007 films will lie with Amazon MGM, meaning we can expect a series of prequels, remakes, crossovers, and spin-offs.
It is worth noting that Amazon acquired the rights to distribute "James Bond" back in 2022, after its purchase of MGM. Along with the Bond franchise, the streaming service's collection gained over 4,000 films and 17,000 television series.
