«Coco 2» Animated Film Set for Release in 2029
Disney is set to bring «Coco 2» to life, with the animated sequel scheduled to hit screens in 2029. The studio has teased that this follow-up to the beloved 2017 film will brim with even more laughter and thrilling escapades.
According to Deadline, Disney’s CEO Robert (Bob) Iger unveiled plans for «Coco 2». The project is still in its early stages, which explains the distant premiere date of 2029. Iger kept the exact release date under wraps and didn’t spill any plot details. However, he hinted at a treasure trove of delights awaiting fans: plenty of witty gags, tender moments, and fresh revelations about the enchanting world of «Coco».
«Though the film is just beginning to take shape, we’re certain it’ll be packed with humor, warmth, and adventure», Iger shared. «We’re itching to reveal more in due time». The sequel will see the original «Coco» team reunite to weave this new chapter.
At the heart of the first «Coco», a Pixar and Disney gem, is 12-year-old Miguel Rivera. A boy with a burning passion for music, Miguel defies his family’s mysterious ban on melodies. Through a twist of fate, he stumbles into the Land of the Dead. As he searches for a way back to the living, he unravels long-buried family secrets.
«Coco» struck gold at the global box office, raking in $814 million against a $175 million budget, and won over critics and audiences alike. The film clinched two Oscars—Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for «Remember Me»—and scooped up accolades at the BAFTA and Golden Globe awards. With such a dazzling track record, it’s no surprise Disney greenlit a sequel.
