New Power Rangers Series in the Works

Disney+ and 20th Century TV have unveiled plans for a new Power Rangers series, breathing fresh life into the beloved franchise with a full reboot. This time, the spotlight shifts to a brand-new cast of characters stepping into the colorful suits of the Power Rangers.

Back in December 2024, whispers surfaced that Paramount was quietly cooking up a Power Rangers film. Now, The Wrap confirms the rumors—but with a twist: it’s a series, not a movie, and it’s headed to Disney+.

Hasbro, the current rights holder of Power Rangers, is teaming up for production. The creators aim to reimagine the saga, ushering these spandex-clad heroes to a younger crowd while keeping the heart of the original intact to delight longtime fans.

The project might tap Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz as showrunners. Talks are underway with the duo, known for crafting Disney+’s fantasy hit Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2024–present), to write and produce.

The original Power Rangers burst onto screens from 1993 to 1995, spawning a legacy of standalone seasons with catchy subtitles—the 30th chapter landed on Netflix in 2023. Rooted in Japan’s Super Sentai, this kid-friendly sci-fi follows five teens gifted with extraordinary powers, often battling evil with giant robots in tow. A 2017 Lionsgate film reboot met mixed reviews and stumbled at the box office, pulling in $142 million against a $100 million budget.
