«Rick and Morty» Season 8

Adult Swim has rolled out a tantalizing teaser for the eighth season of the irreverent animated series «Rick and Morty» (18+), pinning down its premiere date. In the upcoming episodes, madcap scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith crash-land on a peculiar planet where the locals revere Earth’s Easter Bunny.

Season 8 kicks off on May 25, promising 10 fresh installments. Hot on the heels of Season 7’s 2023 debut, the show—now 12 years strong since its 2013 launch—has been greenlit through Season 12, ensuring the duo’s wild ride is far from over.

The teaser whisks us to a planet Rick likens to the eerie cult settlement in «The Wicker Man» (1973, 2006). Here, the inhabitants worship the Easter Bunny, their devotion etched into a stained-glass tribute. Rick spots shards of an Easter egg from the Andromeda Galaxy embedded in the design. The planet’s armed and edgy natives scan him, discovering his past brush with their bunny deity—and now they’re set on using him to track down their god.

A plot synopsis for Season 8 surfaced online, courtesy of Variety:
«Rick and Morty are back for an eighth season! Life has meaning again! Anything’s possible! Join Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth on a quest for adventure. Could Butter Bot [the tiny robotic helper] land a new gig? Whatever happens, keeping Rick and Morty contained is a tall order—plenty have tried and failed.»

The brainchild of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, «Rick and Morty» hit a snag in 2023 when Roiland was ousted amid domestic violence allegations. Though the charges were dropped, he didn’t return. Once the voice behind both Rick and Morty, Roiland’s roles have been filled since Season 7 by Ian Mitchell Cardoni (Rick) and Harry Belden (Morty). Harmon now steers the franchise alongside Scott Marder, keeping the multiverse mayhem alive.
