Rooney and Kate Mara to Play Twin Sisters in Herzog's New Film
Rooney and Kate Mara will star in a film together for the first time, playing twin sisters in Werner Herzog's new film, "Bucking Fastard." Filming is scheduled to begin this spring in Ireland and Slovenia.
"Bucking Fastard" is based on the true story of twin sisters Freda and Greta Chaplin, who could not spend a minute apart. Their case of an unusual emotional connection is still considered a real psychological phenomenon. The sisters often spoke in unison, moved synchronously, and even got sick at the same time. At some point, the Chaplin sisters ended up in court for harassing a truck driver - the girls constantly insulted the man and even threw themselves under the wheels of his car. This particular event is expected to be the central focus of Herzog's project.
The screenplay for the film will be written by the director himself. Ariel Leon Isakovich and Agnes Chu are on the list of executive producers. The official release date has not yet been announced.
This film will be the first joint work for the star sisters in their more than twenty-year career.
The now 41-year-old Kate, an Emmy Award nominee, made her film debut in 1997 in an episode of the TV series "Law & Order." Among her most famous works are roles in the TV series "House of Cards," "American Horror Story: Murder House," and "Pose," as well as in the films "Fantastic Four" (2015) and "The Martian."
Meanwhile, 39-year-old Rooney, a nominee for the Oscars, Golden Globes, and BAFTA Awards, is primarily known for the films "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by David Fincher, "Carol," "Mary Magdalene," "Nightmare Alley," and "Women Talking."
Werner Herzog himself is one of the most famous German directors of our time. Among his most successful films are "The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser," "Aguirre, the Wrath of God," "Nosferatu the Vampyre," and "Fitzcarraldo." The first of these brought Herzog the Grand Prix of Cannes, and the last - the award for best director in Cannes.
Since 2001, Herzog has lived and worked in the United States, where he has directed such films as "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done," and "Queen of the Desert."
In addition to directing, he is also known as the author of documentary and mockumentary films, the author of books, and an opera director. Herzog is also known as a voice actor, and has played minor roles in some well-known films and TV series, including "The Mandalorian," "Mister Lonely," and "What Dreams May Come."
