Isabelle Huppert to Play the Blood Countess Bathory
French actress and Oscar nominee Isabelle Huppert ("The Piano Teacher") will play the lead role in the new project "Blood Countess," Variety reports.
The film will be dedicated to the most famous female serial killer, the 16th-century Hungarian aristocrat Elizabeth Bathory. According to the plot, Bathory is resurrected as a vampire and, together with her maid, sets out in search of the elixir of life in Vienna. Bathory's plans are thwarted by a psychotherapist, the police, and two vampyrologists.
The film will be directed by Ulrike Ottinger ("Joan of Arc of Mongolia"). She also wrote the screenplay with the creator of "The Piano Teacher," Elfriede Jelinek. Lars Eidinger ("Life"), Birgit Minichmayr, and Thomas Schubert are among the supporting actors.
In an official statement, Magnify reports that the film will be an eccentric vampire detective story with a bright cast, a stylish picture, humor, and a playful interpretation of history and modernity.
Huppert appeared on screens last year in Hong Sang-soo's "The Traveler's Needs" and in the melodrama "Sidonie in Japan." The exact release date of "Elizabeth Bathory" is unknown.
