«Split Fiction» Movie Adaptation in the Works

The popular co-op game Split Fiction is set to leap from screens to cinemas with a full-length film adaptation now in the works. The game weaves a tale across two distinct realms—one steeped in fantasy, the other pulsing with sci-fi—and this unique split is expected to shine through in the movie as well.

According to Variety, the wheels are already turning on the Split Fiction film. Major studios are currently vying for distribution rights, while the production team is busy assembling a cast, writers, and a director to bring the vision to life.

Split Fiction hit the gaming world on March 6, landing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It sold over 2 million copies in its first week alone, earning praise from both critics and players. With such a runaway success, it’s no surprise Hollywood has come knocking.

The game hails from Hazelight Studios, with Electronic Arts as its publisher. Hazelight is no stranger to crafting co-op gems, having previously delivered A Way Out (2018) and It Takes Two (2021). In all three titles—including Split Fiction—two players team up to tackle challenges together. Back in 2022, news broke that It Takes Two would also get the film treatment, courtesy of Amazon. That connection hints Amazon might be in the running to adapt Split Fiction too.

In the game’s story, two writers, Zoe Foster and Mio Hudson, receive an intriguing offer from the brass at Rader Publishing to test an experimental simulation device. Zoe sees it as her ticket to fame as an author, while Mio’s eyes are fixed on the paycheck. But the experiment takes an unexpected turn, plunging them into vivid yet perilous worlds born from their own imaginations. Zoe’s universe brims with dragons and magic, while Mio’s teems with robots and starships.
