Variety has unveiled glimpses of Werner Herzog’s upcoming project, «The Twilight World,» marking the German director’s first foray into animation. Set to begin production next year, this film promises a fresh chapter in Herzog’s storied career.
The story draws from the remarkable true tale of Hiroo Onoda, a Japanese intelligence officer who refused to accept World War II’s end. Instead, he waged a solitary campaign deep within the Philippine jungles, defying a world that had moved on.
Herzog penned the screenplay alongside Michael Arias—known for his work on The Animatrix—and Luca Vitali, weaving a narrative as gripping as it is unconventional.
