ANDREAS LUTZ - Aura Trans
Aura Trans explores the invisible and inexplicable effects of audible language by using resynthesized versions of original voice samples as a phonetic inspiration.
Continuing Andreas Lutz’s research for the work series Abstract Language Model (2022 — 2024) which dealt with the semiotic (visible) side of a trans-human/trans-machine language, Aura Trans is the first work of a new series that extends this concept into the sonic scope.
Voice samples of all spoken human languages were first collected from publicly available sources and selected samples transformed into their spectrographic counterparts in order to decouple them from their wave-based origin. After visually manipulating the time bases and spectrum ranges, this edited material was then resynthesized, creating an algorithmically rebuilt version of the original: a new machine-created original or trans-version.
The phonetic expressions of these trans-versions served as a inspiration for the sonic arrangement of the album. The result is a collection of evocative, carefully realized pieces, where the volatile essence of human speech is interpreted with floating and intricate, at times even cinematic, soundscapes.
Aura Trans by German artist Andreas Lutz is available as a digital release and SD card edition.
Biography
Andreas Lutz’s (*1981 in Freiburg / Germany) work explores the
human machine relation with the approach, to create integrated
and universal communication systems. Within these boundaries,
he analyzes and reveals phenomenons of perception versus
reality and principles of abstract aesthetics with sculptures,
installations and performances. The creation of experimental
soundscapes and the relation of semiotics and sound are
further aspects of his work.
Among others, Lutz’s work has been exhibited at the Antarctic Pavilion during 57th Venice Biennale (Italy), the National Art Center Tokyo (Japan), at HeK Basel (Switzerland), at Times Art Museum in Beijing (China), at Sónar+D in Barcelona (Spain) and Istanbul (Turkey), at Karachi Biennale KB22 (Pakistan), at Stereolux Scopitone in Nantes (France), at B39 Art Bunker in Bucheon (South Korea), at FILE Festival in São Paulo (Brazil), at ZKM in Karlsruhe (Germany), at Semibreve Festival in Braga (Portugal), at KOBE Biennale (Japan) and at Athens Digital Arts Festival (Greece).
He has performed at Scopitone Festival in Nantes (France), at Medialab Matadero in Madrid (Spain), at WeSA Seoul in Jeju (South Korea), at OSA Festival in Sopot (Poland), at Festival de la Imágen in Manizales (Colombia), at PRECTXE Festival in Bucheon (South Korea), at Sonic Territories in Vienna (Austria), at SuperDeluxe Tokyo (Japan), at transmediale / CTM Vorspiel in Berlin (Germany), at WASP Bucharest (Romania), at FORUM Kyoto (Japan) and was awarded with the Excellence Award at the 19th Japan Media and Arts Festival (Japan), the Premio Celeste Art Prize (Italy) and the Edigma Semibreve Award (Portugal).
