Aquaserge - La Fin de l’Economie
Released last week, the maverick French band’s 7th album is being enthusiastically received by the French media, with glowing reviews, a live performance and interview on major radio station France Inter, a selection in the playlist of national news station France Info (the 3rd biggest French station), and much more to come...
‘La Fin de l’économie’ is Aquaserge’s most overtly political album, colliding with present-day’s most acute intranquillity and revolt, in a jump over the flames (says rock magazine Magic)
The band reinvent themselves once again, balancing pop fluidity, electric tensions, and poetry connected to social facts and essential struggles. (Les Inrockuptibles)
The album enthralls us with twelve compositions full of inventiveness and melodic clarity. (Le Monde)
It’s a shimmering palette, bubbling from start to finish with a multi-faceted creative fever. The band are having more fun than ever with words and styles. And so are we. (Libération)
As always, the music alludes to multiple sources. Pop, noise, experimental rock, electronics, audio archives. Along the way, the listeners will encounter traces of Oulipo (the famous experimental French literary movement founded in the ’60s), Dada and free jazz. They will cross paths with the ghosts of Ennio Morricone, Walter Benjamin and Marguerite Duras, with the shadows of Kim Gordon and Brigitte Fontaine. And other audacious and exciting melanges, in the pure tradition of Aquaserge.
The band have directed and produced two music videos.
ABOUT AQUASERGE
Recognized as one of the most inventive avant-rock bands around, French band Aquaserge have been a subterranean driving force in the international music scene, inspiring and influencing countless musicians & fans, and collaborating along the way with the likes of Tame Impala, Stereolab, Chassol, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Acid Mothers Temple and Aksak Maboul.
With its shades of vintage French film music, psych rock and free jazz, Aquaserge’s hyper-imaginative sound also draws from elements as diverse as pop, noise, experimental rock from the 1960s and ‘70s (think kraut to Canterbury to ZNR et al), all ingested and playfully transmuted into their own, unique, cinematographic sound. Typically, bold instrumental excursions, intriguing harmonies and lovely pop melodies often alternate within the same Aquaserge song.
