Bill Murray Performs Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone"
A video of actor Bill Murray singing "Like a Rolling Stone," one of Bob Dylan's most famous songs, has gone viral. The performance took place on January 3rd at Thalia Hall in Chicago.
Murray performed "Like a Rolling Stone" with the blues band Blood Brothers, featuring guitarist Mike Zito and singer Albert Castiglia. The actor's version of the song is quite different from the original but has a unique and interesting sound. Murray and Blood Brothers' repertoire also includes other hits, such as "Tired Of Waiting For You" by The Kinks and "Little Red Corvette" by Prince.
This isn't the first time Bill Murray has shown his appreciation for Bob Dylan's work. In 2014, he appeared in the film "St. Vincent," where he sang along to Dylan's "Shelter From The Storm" from the album "Blood on the Tracks" (1975). Murray is no stranger to music in general: in "Lost in Translation" (2003), he famously sang "More Than This" by Roxy Music in a karaoke scene. In 1977, he even appeared on Saturday Night Live as a lounge singer named Nick. And in 2024, he starred in the music video for Icelandic artist Laufey's "Santa Baby."
On December 25th, the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown," starring Timothy Chalamet, was released in theaters worldwide. The film received rave reviews and was nominated for eight Oscars in 2025, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Chalamet's performance was praised by almost everyone, including Bob Dylan himself. On January 25th, the actor performed three of Dylan's lesser-known songs on Saturday Night Live. Many believe that this performance has increased Chalamet's chances of winning an Oscar. He prepared extensively for the role, studying Dylan's singing style and even gaining 9 kg to look more like the musician.
