Iron Maiden to Release Documentary Celebrating 50 Years of the Band

Iron Maiden’s 50th Anniversary Documentary Announced

Iron Maiden has revealed plans for a documentary film to commemorate the band’s 50th anniversary. The project promises a treasure trove of exclusive interviews with key members, including the final words of former vocalist Paul Di’Anno, who passed away in October 2024.

While an exact premiere date remains under wraps, the film is slated to hit screens by the end of 2025—perhaps in December, aligning with the band’s "birth" on Christmas Day 1975. Crafted in collaboration with Universal Pictures Content Group, the documentary is billed as “an emotional journey through Iron Maiden’s 50-year saga.” It weaves together perspectives from the musicians themselves and their devoted fans, with celebrity voices like Javier Bardem, Gene Simmons of Kiss, and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich adding star power. Rare archival footage, including animated sequences featuring Eddie—the band’s iconic mascot—will also make the cut.

There’s a chance this film ties into the upcoming photobook Infinite Dreams – The Official Visual History, due out this fall. That tome promises to unfurl Iron Maiden’s story in chronological splendor.

The band’s most recent album, Senjutsu, dropped in September 2021 to rapturous critical acclaim, earning them a nod at the UK Music Video Awards for the video “The Writing on the Wall.” In 2024, frontman Bruce Dickinson stepped into the solo spotlight with The Mandrake Project, his first release in nearly two decades.

Late 2024 brought a shift, as drummer Nico McBrain bowed out of the band’s live lineup. At 72, the veteran musician chose to step back from the relentless pace of touring life.
