Selena Gomez Releases «Stained»

Selena Gomez has finally gifted fans with «Stained,» a track tucked away for nine years. Recorded back in 2016, the song is now live on her official site, answering the pleas of her devoted followers. It first leaked online in 2017, the same day as her «Fetish» single, and boasts the touch of frequent collaborator Julia Michaels—pen behind Gomez’s hits like «Good for You,» «Hands to Myself,» «Bad Liar,» and «Lose You to Love Me.»

«Stained» landed on March 22, hot on the heels of I Said I Love You First, a joint album with her fiancé Benny Blanco that dropped a day earlier. This marks Gomez’s first full-length effort in five years, packed with star power from Charli XCX, Cashmere Cat, GloRilla, Dylan Brady of 100 gecs, Gracie Abrams, and Billie Eilish’s brother-co-writer Finneas O’Connell. Critics have mostly cheered it on—Associated Press praised the eclectic guest lineup and genre-hopping, while Billboard hailed it as a “convincing addition” to her catalog. ClashMusic says Gomez outdid herself, though The Guardian found it forgettable, missing a clear artistic spark.

Right now, I Said I Love You First reigns atop Apple Music charts in 14 countries, including France and Australia. In the U.S., it’s holding at No. 4, trailing Playboi Carti, Drake, and country star Morgan Wallen. A Billboard 200 crown might elude her, but a top-5 spot seems locked in—charts update Sunday, March 30.
